The latest piece of promotional material comes in the form of a new cover for Empire’s latest issue (seen below) which is sure to put a smile on your face, as it sees little Groot playing around with the Vol. 2 mixtape and seemingly enjoying himself while doing so. There isn’t anything revealed here about the film itself, but it’s a great shot and one that those who pick up the magazine will get a kick out of.

In related news, some recent comments that director James Gunn made while being interviewed on The Adam Carolla Show have revealed a new and exciting addition to the cast:

“We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 which people don’t know about,” he revealed. “Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters…my friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent movie in the role as well and it sort of works in tandem with Sly’s character.”

If you recall, Rosenbaum was actually linked to a part in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, though it ultimately didn’t pan out. To hear that Gunn managed to get the Smallville actor on board for the sequel then is definitely welcome news, even if we don’t know who he’ll be playing. Of course, speculation has already sprung from the director’s comments, but don’t expect anything to be revealed until May 5th, which is when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will blast into theaters.
