Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Is Undergoing Reshoots

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Reshoots. It’s a word that several years ago wouldn’t have made people think twice. Now, however, it strikes fear into the hearts of fanboys everywhere, thanks to one nasty rumor after another of our favorite blockbusters being sent back into production so that the studio can tamper with them and potentially ruin the final product. Not that reshoots haven’t messed up films in the past, but it seems to be happening more often nowadays.

We saw it occur most recently with Suicide Squad and Fantastic Four, and from what we’re hearing, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is in danger of being the next victim of this particular trend. Now, we’ve received word of yet another tentpole being sent back for reshoots, and this time, it’s James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

The news comes from star Karen Gillan, who Tweeted the following:

Before you go ahead and hit the panic button and start forming doubts about what’s one of the most-anticipated sequels in Hollywood at the moment, it’s important to remember that reshoots are standard procedure for most big budget films. Countless movies go through them and turn out just fine – it’s only because of a select few that the word has taken on a negative connotation.

In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I’d say that there’s no reason to worry just yet. Marvel isn’t known for being a studio that heavily tampers with their films, often giving their directors substantial creative freedom – especially when it comes to someone like James Gunn. Instead, these reshoots are likely to either add in something to the post-credits scene, film another cameo or simply clean up some minor issues.

After all, we’ve heard that the sequel will boast a very complex story, so perhaps Marvel just wants to ensure that nothing goes over audiences’ heads? Whatever the case may be, there’s absolutely no reason to panic and until we hear more, it’s probably safe to assume that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will still turn out to be the epic, wild sequel that we’re all hoping it will be.
