Guns, explosions, and Chris Hemsworth: That’s the formula to rule Netflix’s top 10

Never underestimate the power of Chris Hemsworth.

Netflix has seemingly mastered the art of producing the perfect sequel, as evidenced by the film that continues to dominate the Top 10 charts on the streaming platform. Interestingly, Netflix’s formula for creating the ideal second installment goes beyond developing a good story—it also raises the stakes while delivering emotional drama.

If you’re still wondering which film holds the number one spot on Netflix’s charts, it’s Extraction 2, starring Marvel Star Chris Hemsworth. This film has maintained its top position for three consecutive weeks. However, its watch time has been decreasing since its release on June 16, 2023. This week, Extraction 2 amassed over 17.5 million views and accumulated over 36.2 million viewing hours. Nonetheless, the film’s success has been so massive that a third installment has already been announced.

Both Extraction films were written and produced by the Russo Brothers, the same filmmakers behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Hemsworth portrays Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary and former Australian SAS operator. The actor has become more selective with future projects after being diagnosed with a rare gene called APOE4, which places him at high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Currently, the production start date for Extraction 3 remains unknown. However, there are plans to set the third installment in Tokyo, Japan. Hopefully, the third film will replicate the success of its predecessors, as the first two films dominated the top two spots on Netflix’s charts upon release.

If you’re interested in experiencing this action-packed Hemsworth movie, Extraction 2 is available for streaming on Netflix.
