How Many Seasons Of Inuyasha Are There?

There's plenty to binge through. Here's the full count.

In the 1990s and 2000s, anime made waves in the west with popular shows like Dragon Ball Z, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokémon. One of the most memorable of all-time, however, is Inuyasha. After schoolgirl Kagome Higurashi is suddenly transported to Japan’s Sengoku era, she meets Inuyasha, a demon-human hybrid. The two work together to save ancient Japan from Naraku, a sadistic demon bent on dominating the entire nation.

Inuyasha originally ran from 2000 to 2004 in Japan and is heavily based on the 1996 manga of the same name. Between the anime and the manga, which ran for 12 years, fans of the series have had plenty of content to binge through over the years. But if you’re new to the show, it may be daunting to get started.

In this article, we’ll be breaking down exactly how many Inuyasha seasons exist, and how to watch the series for the first time.

How many seasons of Inuyasha are there?

There are seven official seasons of Inuyasha. The series first started airing on Oct. 16, 2000, and the final episode premiered on March 29, 2010.

The first six seasons are a part of the regular Inuyasha series, which premiered in the U.S. in 2002. The final series, Inuyasha: The Final Act, premiered in Japan in 2009 and 2012 in the U.S. The seventh season is based off the final chapters from the original manga.

Inuyasha’s first two seasons boast 27 episodes each while the following three had 28. Season six offered 29 episodes, whereas The Final Act is the shortest season with just 26.

In total, there are 193 episodes across all seven seasons.

There are also four films that fans can check out that wrap together the Inuyasha canon between seasons. The first film takes place following the events of season one and is called Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time. Season two also has its own movie, The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass, and following season three is Swords of an Honorable Ruler. The last Inuyasha movie premiered after season six: Fire on the Mystic Island.

If you still can’t get enough, an official Inuyasha spin-off series aired in 2020. Called Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon, the shows follows the original Inuyasha cast’s children. Yashahime already has 24 additional episodes, making it a lengthy successor for fans that have already burned through the first 197 installments from the original series.
