Anchor Bay’s The Howling: Reborn trailer has many horror fans up in arms. After you watch the trailer, you might be able to see why. This reboot looks like a werewolf pic for the tweener, and it is about as antithetical to the original The Howling as you can get.

Written and directed by Joe Nimziki, this bubblegum horror pic looks to be as innocuous as a de-clawed kitten. From what you see in the trailer, there’s an obvious self-referential thing going on (with a couple goads at the Twilight franchise). But with this peek at the upcoming The Howling for the next generation, I can’t help but think filmmakers have taken out everything about the original that made it stand out in the horror film genre.

I mean, it looks like there are a lot of things exploding, and werewolves jumping around and baring their fangs. But word has it that Nimziki has made a lot of changes to the werewolf mythology, including that little “thing” about full moons and silver.

Here’s the official synopsis and trailer; The Howling: Reborn doesn’t have a release date yet.

On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past… that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will’s growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them… and then, us all.
