Of course, Wolverine has never been one to get all touchy feely, and so Jackman accompanied his post with a reminder that Reynolds shouldn’t get too used to this treatment:

“Because I’m told that I AM THE NICEST GUY and you’re NOT. [Ryan Reynolds] … I will let you hug me. Just this once. On your birthday.”

Though the two Deadpool movies are packed with references to Logan and the Academy Award nominee who plays him, the two heroes have never shared the screen (what is this X-Men Origins: Wolverine that you speak of?) and at this rate, most likely never will.

But while last year’s Logan looks to have been the title character’s swan song, Reynolds has previously expressed an interest in getting Jackman to play himself in the planned X-Force movie. And honestly, while we’ve yet to see any evidence that the Deadpool spinoff will be going through with this idea, it at least sounds like a pretty plausible move for a series that’s known for its cheekily underutilized celebrity cameos.

That being said, it may be a while before Wade’s next project makes it to cinemas, since even director Drew Goddard admitted ignorance on how the Disney-Fox merger could affect the project. With such legal matters reportedly above the filmmaker’s pay grade, it sounds like he too is still waiting for answers, just like the rest of us.

In the meantime, if a PG-13 cut off Deadpool 2 sounds like something to tide you over, The Deadpool Before Christmas is coming to cinemas on December 21st, and is apparently bringing 15 minutes of additional footage with it.
