‘I’ve always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren, but no comment’: ‘Deadpool 3’ director’s ‘Star Wars’ movie threatens to repeat its biggest issue

He's dead, and he should stay that way.

Based on the dozens of filmmakers to have come and gone during the Disney era, the best way to assume any announced Star Wars project is happening is when cameras start rolling with a cast and crew in place, which means Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy‘s movie is far from guaranteed to actually go ahead.

Kathleen Kennedy has overseen a regime where a multitude of names find themselves attached to making a foray into a galaxy far, far away, only for them to swiftly vanish in a puff of smoke. That’s not to say Levy won’t get it done, but hopefully he doesn’t follow through on his Kylo Ren fandom.

Another major issue of the Mouse House’s oversight is that the franchise has become far too reliant on nostalgia, fan service, and callbacks at the expense of storytelling, with Andor winning rave reviews for doing the exact opposite in what’s absolutely not a coincidence.

Levy is friends with Adam Driver, though, so his non-committal answer when quizzed on Star Wars by Variety could open the door to yet another legacy character being resurrected, when it was put to him that maybe it could be a prequel to the sequels that allows Kylo to play a major role.

“Your words, not mine! As you know Adam is a buddy, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment.”

More Adam Driver is never a bad thing, but the last thing Star Wars should be doing is continuing to look into the past, because we’ve already had a decade and change of that with more to come, but for whatever reason Lucasfilm seems afraid of plowing forward.
