The Academy Award nominee was a guest on Hot Ones and made the faux pas over a meal of the show’s notoriously fiery chicken. He asked the host which former guest dared to use a toothpick. Things got very awkward, and he quickly backpedaled when he learned that it was none other than the Scarlet Witch actor.

Gyllenhaal’s awe of Olsen amused fans, who giggled over his reverence for her.

It seems the last thing Gyllenhaal wanted was to provoke the wrath of the MCU fandom.

Unsurprisingly, some fans were too distracted by the actor’s charm and good looks to notice.

The incident prompted another fan to toy with the alluring idea of Gyllenhaal and Olsen as co-stars.

It didn’t take long before the notion of a Mysterio/Scarlet Witch face-off arose.

While Gyllenhaal has no plans to star in a film with Olsen, he appeared on the show to promote his new movie The Covenant by Guy Ritchie. He plays U.S. Sergeant John Kinley completing his final tour in Afghanistan. He hires Ahmed (Dar Salim), a translator, to assist with communications. When the Taliban wage a surprise attack on the platoon, Ahmed saves his life and keeps him safe from harm until the army collects him. After Kinley returns to the United States, he learns that the Taliban are hunting Ahmed and the U.S. army will not intervene. Understanding that Ahmed is in peril because he dared to rescue him, Kinley decides to return to Afghanistan and return the favor.

The movie also stars Alexander Ludwig, Antony Starr, Emily Beecham, Jonny Lee Miller, and Jason Wong.

The cinematic release of The Covenant is on April 21.
