James Cameron And Deadpool Director Tim Miller Will Reboot The Terminator

Well, it looks like we now know why director Tim Miller chose not to return for Deadpool 2. Though creative differences no doubt played a large part in his departure, it seems that he also had bigger fish to fry. How big, you ask? Try Terminator-level big. That's right, folks, it sounds like the filmmaker will be teaming up with James Cameron to reboot the iconic sci-fi actioner, according to Deadline.

Well, it looks like we now know why director Tim Miller chose not to return for Deadpool 2. Though creative differences no doubt played a large part in his departure, it seems that he also had bigger fish to fry. How big, you ask? Try Terminator-level big. That’s right, folks, it sounds like the filmmaker will be teaming up with James Cameron to reboot the iconic sci-fi actioner, according to Deadline.

The outlet’s report doesn’t go into much detail on the new project, but with the rights to the franchise set to revert back to Cameron in a few years, sources say the director is talking to Miller about doing another film in the series. Skydance’s David Ellison is financing the new effort and it’s said that a search is currently underway for a group of writers who can crack the story. Though it’ll be the Deadpool helmer who officially sits behind the camera for this outing, Cameron will be heavily involved in a creative sense, which definitely bodes well for the flick.

After all, the last entry into the iconic series, Terminator: Genisys, was an utter disaster and many assumed that that would be it for the franchise. Looks like James is still itching to do more though now that he’s getting the rights back, and we’re beyond excited to hear that he’s involved. Admittedly, the Terminator films haven’t been all that enjoyable lately, but there’s still a lot of potential to do something pretty special here and we’re optimistic that this new project can deliver.

While we still don’t know if this will be a straight reboot or some kind of continuation of T2 – or a mix of both – just the very fact that Cameron will oversee everything means that we’ll no doubt get something much more satisfying than the horrible Genisys. Plus, Miller is a VFX whiz, and combined with Cameron’s knowledge of the field, we’ve no doubt that this new Terminator will be truly dazzling and an absolute visual feast, no matter which direction it ends up taking creatively.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any further information to go on at this time, and it hasn’t yet been revealed which cast members might be returning, but this is huge news regardless and has us itching to learn more. We’ll be sure to keep you posted when additional updates arise but in the meantime, take to the comments section and let us know what you make of the project.
