James Gunn masterfully dodges the rumor mill as a front-runner to direct ‘The Brave and the Bold’ emerges

If he refuses to deny anything outright, then there's a chance it's right on the money.

If James Gunn doesn’t actively address, debunk, or correct a rumor that’s being peddled on social media, then there’s always a chance the speculation is right on the money, leaving many DCU fans convinced that a front-runner to direct The Brave and the Bold has emerged.

In a twist of fate that’s either going to elate or frustrate the diehard cabal of SnyderVerse supporters depending on how they want to interpret the scuttlebutt, the candidate just so happens to be none other than Ben Affleck. Of course, Gunn already confirmed that he was in talks with the two-time Academy Award winner and outgoing Batman about a mysterious project, and it would certainly be a full-circle moment were the franchise’s former canonical Caped Crusader to call the shots on the character’s latest reboot.

Even though it remains entirely unconfirmed at this stage, it’s worth noting that Gunn got caught up in the comments of a Twitter post that named Affleck as being in the running to helm The Brave and the Bold, but he didn’t address the content at all.

Instead, Gunn was forced to step in and clear the air after a commenter claimed he’d flat-out denied that Affleck was set to step behind the camera on a Batman movie that he won’t be starring in, while still refusing to outright confirm or deny the chatter.

It might be a storm in a teacup, but given the co-CEO’s approach to social media over the years, the fact he’s weighing in on a story based explicitly on Affleck directing The Brave and the Bold without mentioning if there’s any basis in truth is interesting nonetheless.
