Filming on Morbius has been underway for about five weeks now, and the production has so far yielded a fair few photos from the movie’s UK set. And in a new Instagram post, Jared Leto offers one more tease of the dark adventure to come.

The post includes a GIF-style video that shows a hooded Michael Morbius standing in the street and looking pretty static as people wander past him. Presumably, this footage was shot in the city of Manchester, which will be presented as New York in the movie itself. The promo also came with a moody message that could easily be mistaken for the tagline of a Batman film:

“Because no one else will walk this path…this place of shadows, where we do what must be done, no matter the cost. #MORBIUS”

Speaking of things staying in the shadows, we’ve yet to get a proper look at Leto in full vampire mode, though he did share a set photo last month where the bottom half of his face was strategically covered.

Meanwhile, set pics have also given us an early glimpse of Matt Smith as the film’s alleged villain. The Doctor Who actor plays Loxias Crown, a friend of Morbius who suffers from the same rare blood disease, suggesting that he too could be growing a pair of fangs.

After Venom exceeded expectations at the box office last year, the pressure is on Morbius to prove that Sony’s Marvel Universe has more to offer than Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock. We’ll see if Leto’s antihero can find similar success when the film hits theaters on July 31st, 2020. After that, reports indicate that Venom 2 could be dropping later in the year.
