Last weekend, news broke out that Jason Momoa had in fact joined Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice as Aquaman, a part he’d always denied being involved with despite persistent rumors to the contrary. Interestingly, he still won’t admit that he’ll play the Atlantean superhero, despite confirmations coming in from various Hollywood trades. He appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night and was asked if he could confirm or deny the rumors. His response? Probably not the one that DC fans were hoping for:
“That would be pretty exciting, wouldn’t it. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Well, at least he’s not denying it, or laughing it off, as he did when asked about the rumors previously. Some have taken his response as a sign that maybe he hasn’t actually nabbed the role, but I don’t think that’s it at all. What’s likely going on is that he is contractually obligated to wait to discuss the news until after the execs at Warner Bros. announce it themselves. After all, the studio likely doesn’t want late night talk show hosts stealing any of their thunder.
Hopefully they’ll make that announcement soon though, because this back-and-forth guesswork isn’t good for the studio, the fans, or even Momoa for that matter, who has to bite his tongue every time someone asks him about a character he’s probably extremely excited to play.
