It certainly sounds like a Jason Statham movie alright. However, the difference here is that it comes to us from Steven Knight, the writer who gave us the screenplay for the intriguing Eastern Promises, who will be making this his feature directorial debut.

Statham has been in a bit of a rut for most of his career, making what seems to be the same kind of movie over and over again. Most of the films in his filmography, which includes three Transporter films, Safe, The Mechanic, Killer Elite, and War, will give you a good enough idea of what to expect from the rest.

He has had a few good ones though, including Snatch, The Bank Job, and Crank. Hopefully pairing up with Knight will help him out of his rut, even though that logline sounds just like most of his other films.

As for the picture itself, it doesn’t look like anything particularly special. We have Statham looking angry as always on the phone in front of what looks like an arcade, undoubtedly getting ready to go beat the living daylights out of the guys who killed his girlfriend. With Statham around, you can bet on a fair amount of action, as well as a lot of grumbled dialogue, but who knows, perhaps we’ll be surprised this time around… though I wouldn’t count on it.

The film has been picked up by Lionsgate, but does not yet have a release date.
