Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique, dressed in civvies with a familiar human disguise to match, spectates over a mutant cage fight in today’s all-new X-Men: Apocalypse clip.
With the lights dimmed and doors locked, it is Kodi Smit-McPhee’s elusive Nightcrawler that’s thrust into the spotlight, going toe-to-toe with Ben Hardy’s majestic Angel.
From what we gather, today’s clip is lifted from an early portion of Bryan Singer’s blockbuster threequel, with Lawrence’s First Class member scouting potential students for Professor X’s school. Besides, previous trailers have shown that Hardy’s winged mutant goes on to become one of the Four Horsemen alongside Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Alexandra Shipp’s tempermental Storm.
Rounding out the stellar ensemble are James McAvoy, Oscar Isaac as the titular baddie, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult and Hugh Jackman in an appearance that won’t just be a throwaway cameo.
Look for Bryan Singer’s threequel to storm theaters on May 27.
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
