John Boyega Says Star Wars: Episode IX Will Give Us The War To End All Wars

Star Wars: Episode IX still feels a very long way away (two years to be precise) and really, all we know about it to date is that Princess Leia's role has been reworked to deal with the tragic death of Carrie Fisher and that Colin Trevorrow has been booted from the movie in favor of J.J. Abrams. Obviously, we'll have a better idea where things are going after we see The Last Jedi, but right now it's a big mystery wrapped up in an enigma.

One person who’s got a clearer idea than most of where the New Trilogy is headed though is John Boyega, who plays Finn. Coming Soon scored an interview with him at the New York Comic-Con this week and asked the actor about what might be on the cards for the franchise.

Now, Boyega is as tight-lipped about spoilers as the rest of his fellow cast members and at this point, nobody really knows for sure what’s going to happen in the movie, as the script hasn’t been finalized yet. With all that in mind, he did say the following:

“I think what’s fantastic is it feels like it’s coming back full circle. I don’t know nothing about the script, the story. I don’t know where Finn’s going, I don’t know where Rey is going, but definitely I feel this is the war to end all wars in this movie. I’m interested to know how he will handle that.”

The Star Wars saga has already seen some pretty titanic clashes over the last eight movies, but the promise of a truly pan-galactic pitched war bigger than anything we’ve seen thus far is an insanely exciting proposition. I think we can rightfully hope for Abrams to pull something genuinely special out of the hat that’ll perfectly cap off the New Trilogy.

Boyega continued by saying:

“I’m asking so many questions and I haven’t had a chance to kinda sit down and write J.J. a message just to say congratulations and I’m stoked. My fixation now is that he needs to get some SLEEP and GEAR UP because we’re doing another one of these movies, mate! But I think he’s gonna do a great job, as always. He’s J.J!”

First off, John Boyega is so enthusiastic that he’s put a big smile on my face. Not only that, but I’m dead jealous of anyone that gets a chance to work on these movies, let alone the actors that get to be suited up and wave lightsabers and blasters around on set. When Trevorrow was in the director’s chair I was a little skeptical of Episode IX (I mean, The Book of Henry…) but now that Abrams is back on the case, I’m fully hyped up.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to arrive on December 20th, 2019, with The Last Jedi just a few months away, releasing on December 15th.
