John Krasinski Recalls Losing Out On Captain America To Chris Evans

John Krasinski has done a helluva job rebranding himself this year. Typecast as the strong silent type, he gave new meaning to the label, quite literally, in his box office smash A Quiet Place. However, the future wasn’t always as bright as where the actor can be presently found – namely, in the upper pantheon of coveted talent.

With The Office winding down, and Krasinski looking to really solidify himself on the big screen, he found himself as a finalist to portray Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Obviously, the role went to current Avenger Chris Evans, and the rest, as they say, is history.

During an interview with Variety though, while promoting his Amazon original series Jack Ryan – which is set to kickoff at the end of next month – Krasinski recollected getting the disappointing call from his agent, on his wife’s (Emily Blunt) birthday, no less.

“My agent called and said, ‘They’re going to go with Chris Evans,’ And I remember I said, ‘Yeah, look at him. He’s Captain America,’” Krasinski divulged. He subsequently went on to explain that Blunt then offered to cancel their dinner plan, but he wasn’t about to back out of their date for such a foregone conclusion. “I said, ‘It’s Chris Evans. Of course, we’re going to dinner.”

He may not be the star-spangled man with a plan – but with A Quiet Place 2 supposedly on the way, the actor has undoubtedly become a star in his own right. And who knows, seeing as superhero-dom is the flavour of the decade, and the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company all but official, John Krasinski may find himself a member in the MCU yet. Perhaps as Mr. Fantastic?
