Kevin Fiege – who has been a producer on almost every Marvel movie since 2000 – must be very rich by now. And although he’s probably extremely busy laughing his ass off about it, Fiege has still made time to compliment Sir Ben Kingsley on his performance as the Mandarin in upcoming Marvel movie Iron Man 3.

Here’s what he had to say:

“On his last take of his first full day as the Mandarin, when they yelled ‘Cut!’ the entire crew burst into applause, spearheaded by Mr. Downey himself. It was pretty amazing to see that.”

“That’s what you get when you hire Sir Ben Kingsley. He’s so excited about his part and so into this character, and frankly just scaring the heck out of everybody. They’re like, ‘You’ve broken us out of our skeptical malaise!'”

It isn’t unwise, of course, to assume great things from Sir Ben, despite that raving mad performance in Thunderbirds back in 2004. And BloodRayne in 2005. And, uh, then there was… The Love Guru, and, um, War Inc., and… ahem… The Wackness.

Seriously, Ben? Who is your agent?

Iron Man 3 will pit Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark against the Mandarin (Kingsley) without the use of all his gadgets and inventions, forcing Tony to rely on the power of his genius mind. Well, that doesn’t sound too bad. From the recent trailer debut, though, it looks as if Stark is going to take one hell of a beating.

The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall and Jon Favreau. It is set for an opening date of May 3rd, 2013.
