Netflix makes another critical mistake by removing a hit horror series

Without question, the long-standing Evil Dead franchise is one of the most beloved in the genre. With that said, diehards naturally gravitated towards Starz’ critically-acclaimed show, which Netflix eventually went on to pick up and place on its platform. However, despite Evil Dead Rise arriving in theaters next month, the streaming giant will apparently pull the series from streaming just a week after the franchise’s film release. As a result, it goes without saying that true horror fanatics aren’t very happy about the movie — which only adds to Netflix’s recent disdain.

Nic Cage’s ever-present popularity has never been a topic that’s been examined too long under a microscope — probably because it seems too difficult to comprehend that anybody would dislike him. Flash forward to present day, and that doesn’t appear as if it’ll change, especially not with the acclaimed actor set to entertain the horror realm with his upcoming performance as a wacky and campy Count Dracula — which was perfectly displayed in the new Renfield trailer. We’ll take a million tickets to Renfield, please.

Considering how infamous The Strangers truly is, it feels unfathomable to believe that the film’s writer/director could have committed an act of plagiarism. However, one user on Reddit pointed out the similarities between the home invasion feature and French horror film Them. In the end, it seemed incredibly obvious that while the two movies do share a common premise, there’s nothing else that really insists that The Strangers copied in any way, shape, or form.

Slither back in here tomorrow, Evil Dead aficionados, for a fresh-faced horror roundup.
