Latest Sci-Fi News: James Gunn accidentally reveals too much about his DCU plans and ‘Star Wars’ fans wonder if Disney will ever pull a George Lucas on them

The definitively ultimate edition?

James Gunn doesn’t seem to want to give up his social media escapades, even if it means getting dangerously close to spilling the beans for fans. And apparently, when he isn’t doing that, the filmmaker channels a certain tyrannical emperor from a galaxy far, far away to reassert his authority over the DCU.

Speaking of Star Wars, fans have recently taken a trip down memory lane and wondered if the Mouse House should also pull a George Lucas by revamping the CGI in those older movies and releasing a remastered version. Check out these beats in today’s sci-fi roundup down below.

The sixth episode of The Last of Us premiered some hours ago and continued Ellie and Joel’s journey, but some fans are still recovering from the emotional shock of sitting through last week’s outing, in which the story introduced us to Sam and Henry only to kill the former off in a most tragically potent way imaginable. Now, just in time for the next episode, a recent piece of fan art going viral on social media celebrates Sam’s superheroic life in the post-apocalypse. Is it just us or is someone cutting onions nearby?

James Gunn sounds awfully close to Emperor Palpatine when answering a question about his authority over the DCU

James Gunn divides his time equally between managing the DCU reboot and interacting with fans on social media. Only recently, one person wondered if Warner Bros. was going to meddle in his work, to which the Guardians of the Galaxy director responded: “Peter [Safran] and I are the studio. There is no one to meddle.”

We wouldn’t mind it, of course, if it was only the occasional dispelling of rumors and misleading information, but Gunn might want to seriously monitor his online screen time, which is genuinely bordering on obsession. In fact, thanks to these interactions, the filmmaker may have just revealed which surprise characters you can expect to see in the DCU.

Since a lot of older Star Wars movies suffer from terrible CG effects, should Disney consider remastering them for modern audiences?

George Lucas may have been all but forgiven for fumbling the bag when the prequels came out, but the Star Wars fandom still remembers his infamous re-releases all too well. Lucas wasn’t in the business of actually tweaking the experience by enhancing visual fidelity; he mostly used those versions to tweak certain things in the narrative, which didn’t sit well with a lot of fans.

Now, Star Wars stans are wondering if Disney should remaster the old films with the latest technology. Sure, those dated effects don’t really put us off even now, but wouldn’t it be amazing to watch that Luke vs. Vader duel play out with those fancy new ILM techniques?
