If anyone has a reason to be salty over the existence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Deadpool 3 – and there aren’t many of them given the hype levels surrounding the project – then it’s Logan director James Mangold.
After all, the filmmaker brought the curtain down on Hugh Jackman’s legendary stretch as the mutton-chopped mutant with one of the greatest comic book adaptations of all-time, which even scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. However, he isn’t harboring any ill will towards the impending threequel, and he’s even got storyline suggestions.
Of course, Jackman and Ryan Reynolds made it abundantly clear right off the bat that Deadpool 3 wouldn’t interfere with the events of Logan, and a combination of the MCU’s multiverse – along with the fact the latter is set in 2029 – ensures that it’ll be left intact. Nonetheless, when asked by ComicBook what he wants to see in the currently-shooting threequel, Mangold echoed the opinion held by pretty much everybody else.
“A really fun 48 Hours style buddy picture with those two. To me, that was always… We discussed this way back in the day, Ryan, Hugh and I, and it was always this idea that you could do some kind of Walter Hill, gritty, or Midnight Run. These two, somehow on a road trip together would be magical.”
There’s an extremely high probability that’s exactly what we’re going to be getting from Deadpool 3, and it sounds as though Mangold will be one of the first in line to check it out, if he isn’t pre-occupied with the likes of Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi and the DCU’s Swamp Thing, that is.
