Ryan Reynolds first made his debut as Wade Wilson alongside Hugh Jackman in the much-maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine (though the character went on to become a bastardized version of Deadpool), and following the huge success of the Merc with a Mouth’s first solo outing, both actors have been keen to work together again. The fact that Logan is being touted as Jackman’s final appearance as the mutant berserker obviously cast doubt on this ever coming to pass, but a new rumor suggests otherwise.
According to The Wrap, Ryan Reynolds has indeed shot a scene as Deadpool for James Mangold’s Logan. They don’t provide any further details on what it involves, except to say that his appearance will most likely wind up being in a post-credits scene. Of course, 20th Century Fox declined to comment, so it’s best to take this with the requisite pinch of salt for the time being.
To be honest, Deadpool bringing his usual shtick to the bleak, somber-looking Logan seems like it could only result in an extreme clash of tones – but having said that, the Merc with a Mouth has been known to reign in it on occasion and has been involved in some more dramatic arcs in the comics over the years, so perhaps we’ll see a slightly more serious incarnation of the character in this movie?
Logan will make a beeline for theatres on March 3, 2017. Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez also star. Deadpool 2, meanwhile, still doesn’t have an official release date following the news that John Wick‘s David Leitch will replace Tim Miller as director. It is expected to land sometime in 2018 though, and as always, we’ll let you know once we learn more.
