Mad Max: Fury Road Prequel Movie Reportedly Circling Pre-Production, George Miller To Direct

Mad-Max-Fury-Road-Furiosa

Imperator Furiosa is a character that resonated so much with moviegoers that many considered Charlize Theron’s one-armed badass to be the actual protagonist of last year’s action masterpiece, Mad Max: Fury Road.

It’s hardly surprising, then, that Furiosa has been the center of some back-and-forth reports regarding a potential sequel to George Miller’s white-knuckle ride, but after mustering a relatively soft $378 million at the worldwide box office, it’s fair to say that talk of a Fury Road follow-up hasn’t produced any tangible results – at least, results that we know of.

A new report hailing from Herald Sun, however, claims that a Mad Max: Fury Road continuation is indeed circling pre-production Down Under, welcoming back the core trio of Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Miller himself. Said to be a prequel movie as opposed to a traditional sequel, the outlet goes on to suggest that Theron’s Furiosa will anchor the post-apocalyptic picture that is purportedly lensing at the Broken Hill Studios in New South Wales.

Here’s some shots of those sets in question, per /Film.

Last we reported on George Miller’s rejuvenated franchise, the filmmaker confirmed that two Mad Max movies were incubating over at Warner Bros. – could the first be a Charlize Theron-fronted spinoff, before all parties reconvene on the Fury Road once again for a full-blown sequel? Time will tell. Then again, the feverish excitement that tends to surround the dystopian series leads us to believe that Warner will be unable to keep this one under lock and key for very long – assuming that it is indeed a sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.

In related news, a black and white version of Miller’s magnum opus has finally been dated.
