Well, it’s undoubtedly been a veritable birthday party extravaganza for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of late.
For those of you who don’t know, Avengers: Infinity War star Chris Hemsworth turned thirty-five on Saturday, August 11th, and yesterday, his co-star, Sebastian Stan, celebrated his thirty-sixth birthday. And although some pretty high profile talent did their best to serenade the Melbourne, Australia native, my apologies go out to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Josh Brolin, as you simply cannot compare to the movie star who just wished the pride of Constanța, Romania a very happy natal day.
During the early afternoon hours on Monday, August 13th, none other than Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, took to Twitter and wished his “estranged son,” Sebastian Stan, “the happiest of birthdays.” In the Tweet, Hamill even acknowledged Stan as his kin, comparing the Winter Solider to his own children – who never call, I might add – Nathan and Griffin Hamill.
“Wishing Sebastian Stan the happiest of birthdays,” he wrote. “I’m beginning to believe he might actually BE my son, cuz just like @NathanHamill & @GriffinHamill, he never calls…he never writes…C’mon kids- would it kill ya to drop your old man a line? #Ingrates”
In case you missed the memo, people have been debating the likeness of Sebastian Stan and Mark Hamill, well, practically since the release of Captain America: Civil War. As a matter of fact, the resemblance between Stan and Hamill has become such a hot topic that the latter even Tweeted a picture of himself and Stan, juxtaposed, late last year, with the caption: “Sorry to disappoint you, but I refuse to say ‘Sebastian Stan-I AM YOUR FATHER!’ (even though, in fact, I am).”
Truthfully speaking, though, Mark Hamill and Stan have been terrific sports throughout the whole lookalike scandal. So much so, in fact, that Stan even fielded a question last year at Rhode Island Comic Con where a fan asked him if he’d ever considered playing Luke Skywalker. While he’s open to the idea, given the reception Lucasfilm received upon recasting Han Solo, I don’t expect that he’ll be getting a phone call regarding the role anytime soon.
