Mark Millar Says Taron Egerton Will Be The Next Wolverine

Marvel has got to recast all of the X-Men now that they have the rights to the franchise back from Fox - except for Deadpool, that is - but the one everyone's interested in is Wolverine. Taking over from Hugh Jackman won't be easy, so the studio will maybe go for a completely different actor. In fact, comic book writer Mark Millar, creator of Old Man Logan, already has his choice for who should play the part, and it's Kingsman's Taron Egerton.

Marvel has got to recast all of the X-Men now that they have the rights to the franchise back from Fox – except for Deadpool, that is – but the one everyone’s interested in is Wolverine. Taking over from Hugh Jackman won’t be easy, so the studio will maybe go for a completely different actor. In fact, comic book writer Mark Millar, creator of Old Man Logan, already has his choice for who should play the part, and it’s Kingsman’s Taron Egerton.

A fan contacted Millar on Twitter to congratulate him on his psychic skills based on an old comic from 2002 that both features a Nick Fury based on Samuel L. Jackson and mentions future Iron Man Robert Downey Jr. In response, Millar wrote: “Always remember I’m never wrong. PS Taron Egerton will be the next Wolverine :)”

Millar is mostly joking here, of course. As the co-creator of the Kingsman franchise, he’s no doubt going to support Egerton for the coveted role. What’s interesting, though, is that we here at We Got This Covered have heard rumblings that Marvel might possibly be considering Taron Egerton as their Wolverine as well. Our source told us that the Rocketman star is one of a few names they have on their shortlist. But we’ll have to wait and see how the hunt for the next Logan plays out as nothing’s been made official just yet.

Still, the internet has thrown up its own shortlist of names of late, with a range of actors being touted as potentially good fits for the Adamantium Avenger. Everyone from Daniel Radcliffe to Keanu Reeves to Scott Eastwood and old favorite Tom Hardy have been linked to the part. Maybe after all this though, Marvel will go for an unknown actor for Wolverine instead, much like Fox did with Jackman 20 years ago. Time will tell, but we’ll keep you posted when we hear more.
