Guillaume Canet, the highly acclaimed French actor/director behind films such as Tell No One and Last Night, is planning on branching out to English speaking films.

Canet is looking to direct a remake of the 2008 French film Les Liens Du Sang, which translates to The Rivals. The film is “a 70s-set drama about two brothers, one a cop, the other a criminal fresh out of the joint.”

Canet is reportedly working on the script with James Grey and now we get news on a few actors who are showing interest in the movie, which will be re-titled Blood Ties.

Mark Wahlberg is reportedly in talks for the role of one of the brothers, while Canet’s partner Marion Cotillard is reportedly circling another role in the film, as is Zoe Saldana.

It has also been announced that another James Grey/Marion Cotillard project, Low Life, has gained funding and plans to shoot in January for a late 2012 release.  Low Life will star Joaquin Phoenix and follows:

“A Polish woman (Cotillard) who immigrates to America, only to struggle with a man forcing her into prostitution (Phoenix). She finds hope in the form of his cousin, a magician that manages to sweep the young woman off her feet and is her best chance to escape the nightmarish life she has fallen into.”
