It’s been a slow and rocky journey for The Batman, but in recent months, it feels like things have really been clicking into place for the project, with Matt Reeves set to begin filming the Caped Crusader’s next solo outing by the end of 2019.

It was reported back in January that Warner Bros. was aiming to commence production on the movie in November, and from the sound of things, that’s more or less the plan they’re sticking to, with Reeves claiming via Twitter that it looks like The Batman will be ready to shoot “sometime around year’s end.”

In the meantime, we still have a lot to learn about the upcoming DC flick, not least who’ll be the actor behind the mask now that Ben Affleck has departed. Based on all we’ve heard, we can expect the new star to be a fair bit younger than his predecessor, with recent reports suggesting such names as X-Men series regular Nicholas Hoult and Kick-Ass lead Aaron Taylor-Johnson, among others. But seeing how it was reported just a few weeks ago that Warner had yet to meet with any actors for the project, it could still be at least a couple more months before we get an announcement.

What’s more, Reeves himself has hinted that the film will feature multiple famous villains, among whom is widely believed to be the Penguin, so that’s a few more key casting announcements that we’ve yet to hear. But whatever news the coming months bring, we still have a long wait to go before The Batman hits theaters on June 25th, 2021. In the meantime, next on the DCEU agenda is Shazam!, which is headed for release on April 5th, 2019.
