Deadline is reporting that Melissa Leo will be joining Tom Cruise in Joseph Kosinski‘s Oblivion. Aiming for an April 2013 release, the film is currently shooting and though we know that Leo is confirmed, we don’t know what role she’ll be taking on.
Also starring Morgan Freeman, Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenk and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Horizons is a sci-fi film that will take place on a post-Apocalyptic Earth.
Cruise will of course be taking the lead role as “a veteran soldier who’s banished to the surface of a post-apocalyptic Earth and tasked with repairing ships that hunt down the aliens who destroyed our planet.”
The film is a high profile one and with Leo joining the cast, the caliber of acting that will be on display here just improved significantly. The actress is coming off a recent Best Supporting Actress win for The Fighter and I’m glad to see her joining a big project like this. She usually sticks to indie films and lowed budget productions so to see her hop on board a big film like this is exciting
She’ll next be seen in the Robert Zemeckis-directed Flight.
