Michael Fassbender's synthetic features in the latest promo for Alien: Covenant - but is it David or the all-new android Walter?

Another day, another promo for Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant to pour over.

This time, 20th Century Fox has served up what is arguably the most tangible teaser yet – a picture of Michael Fassbender’s synthetic sitting idly by a grand piano, 2001-style. Given the Irishman is set to portray not one, but two androids in Covenant, the big question now is whether this picture depicts David, the dubious robot that featured in Prometheus, or Walter, an evolved android described as a more docile being than his forebear.

Said Fassbender: “I think Walter’s a real different kettle of fish. David was definitely a work-in-progress, somewhat of a prototype I suppose. The elements of him that were the human elements I think people found a little disturbing, so Walter’s more of a straightforward robot. Pretty logical, much more of a servant without the ego.”

Adding to the sense of intrigue is the fact that today’s Tweet was posted without a numerical caption. All throughout the week, previous photos – the Colonial Marines, the medical bloodbath, the serpentine corridor – have been tethered with a series of numbers (timestamp?) that appeared to confirm not only the year in which Alien: Covenant takes place – 2104, for those keeping track – but how certain story elements are set to unfold. For instance, if those numbers really do represent dates and times, the med-bay carnage will seemingly take place before we visit that creepy corridor, which is surely taken from the bowels of a Juggernaut ship.

Alien: Covenant will be with us on May 19, 2017. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait so long to catch a glimpse of Ridley Scott’s prequel/sequel in action, as this latest image is surely the final primer before this weekend’s big trailer reveal. As always, we’ll have full coverage for you here on We Got This Covered, so be sure to stay tuned.
