Milla Jovovich may currently be playing a queen in the box office bomb Hellboy, but she’s raising hell, boy, on Instagram in protest of the new smattering of grotesquely restrictive anti-abortion laws recently passed in the southern United States. In a bid to bring awareness to why abortions are a medically necessary procedure that women need easy, uncomplicated access to, the Resident Evil star detailed her own terrifying experience from a while back.

In her very lengthy post, Jovovich described that, while filming overseas two years ago, she had to undergo an emergency abortion, as she went into pre-term labor at only four-and-a-half months pregnant. “I was told I had to be awake for the whole procedure,” she said, before going more into how the experience made her feel. “I was alone and helpless,” the actress said before moving on to defend women’s rights to easily accessible medical care.

“When I think about the fact that women might have to face abortions in even worse conditions than I did because of new laws,” she starts, “my stomach turns.” Milla then talks about how she “spiraled into one of the worst depressions of my life,” and took steps to try and maintain a strong outer facade for the rest of her family. But, when she concludes, she really tugs the core issue:

Abortion is a nightmare at its best. No woman wants to go through that. But we have to fight to make sure our rights are preserved to obtain a safe one if we need to. I never wanted to speak about this experience. But I cannot remain silent when so much is at stake.

She’s completely, one hundred percent correct: the stakes have, honestly, never been so high. Milla’s also incredibly brave, as it cannot have been easy to write that, let alone post it for the world to see. Luckily, she’s not alone. Numerous actors and actresses, ranging from Tessa Thompson to Mark Ruffalo, have called on Hollywood to stop production in states that support such restrictive bans on women’s reproductive rights.

I hope more celebrities continue to come out against these heinous idiots and their failure to understand the separation of church and state, let alone the importance of human autonomy. A real-life Hellboy might honestly come in handy right about now. He’d help get the point across, surely.
