Marvel fans went wild when it was announced that Natalie Portman was returning to the MCU for Thor: Love and Thunder. But not just as Jane Foster, astrophysicist and Thor‘s ex – as Jane Foster, Mighty Thor. Yes, when we next see her, Portman’s character will be worthy enough to wield Mjolnir and shall possess the powers of the God of Thunder. And we’re hearing that this won’t be a temporary thing, either.
We Got This Covered has been informed by our sources – the same ones who told us back in April about both the She-Hulk TV series, and that Black Knight was coming to the MCU – that Portman will replace Chris Hemsworth as the MCU’s Thor following Love and Thunder. We’ve even got a hint at how this will go down. Apparently, Thor Odinson won’t be killed off or anything as extreme as that, but he’ll likely pass on the mantle to Jane and retire, so to speak, thereby leaving it open for him to return if Hemsworth and the studio want that to happen later down the line.
This fits with what we’ve previously reported, too, which is that the Mighty Thor will be part of at least two future MCU teams. The New Avengers line-up we’ve shared counts Jane on its roster, along with other Phase 4 heroes like Shang-Chi and Blade, and she’ll also be involved with the A-Force, the all-female superhero group movie that we recently revealed is in the works.
After being absent from the MCU since 2013’s Thor: The Dark World (not counting her brief audio/archival footage return in Avengers: Endgame), it sounds like we’re about to see a lot more of Portman in the Marvel universe over the next few years and the next couple of phases. So, get ready for the Mighty Thor to make a big impact when she storms onto screens in Thor: Love and Thunder, which arrives in November 2021.
