Netflix Makes Savage Joke About The Snap In Avengers: Infinity War Description

Netflix can’t stop inviting the scrutiny of fans for its description of Avengers: Infinity War. Having previously drawn backlash and inspired online debates after characterizing Thanos as an “intergalactic sociopath,” a new post on Reddit observes how a little box office tidbit makes light of the film’s genocidal ending.

Netflix can’t stop inviting the scrutiny of fans for its description of Avengers: Infinity War. User LunarParadox has shared a screenshot of the Netflix page for Anthony and Joe Russo’s latest release, highlighting the following sentence for its somewhat spoiler-y pun:

“Audiences snapped up tickets for “Avengers: Infinity War,” powering it to more than $2 billion at the global box office.”

In case it isn’t clear, the fans are interpreting the words “snapped up” as a brutal reference to the finger-snap that eradicated half of all life from the universe and traumatized audiences in the process.

Regardless of whether this savage wordplay was intended or purely accidental, this is hardly the first time anyone has poked fun at the Infinity War finale, with the snap earning almost immediate meme status when the film first arrived in cinemas. Even cast members like Robert Downey Jr. have been known to joke about the fate of half of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, though Tony Stark might not be laughing so hard after the events of the upcoming Avengers: Endgame.

Speaking of which, as saddened as fans were by the grim conclusion of Avengers: Infinity War, it’s clear that the sequel will find some way of undoing the Decimation, with such dusted heroes as Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange all having future projects lined up. How exactly the surviving Avengers will pull this off remains the number one question, but we’ll find out when Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
