Lars von Trier has yet again, teased us with another clip from the highly anticipated, highly controversial, Nymphomaniac. The film is to be made into two parts with a total of eight chapters. The scene is taken from the second chapter where Stacy Martin’s character, Joe, has a pleasure filled evening with the chapter’s title character, Jerome, played by Shia LeBeouf.
Prior to the release of this clip, a NSFW still was taken from the chapter as well (seen below), showing the two individuals becoming quite intimate. Nothing out of the ordinary from the controversial director.
The plot of the film is quite simple; a woman recalls her sexual past to a man who saved her from an attack. Stacy Martin is portraying a younger version of the main character with Lars von Trier’s regular, Charlotte Gainsbourgh, playing the present day edition. Co-starring in the movie are a number of well-known actors including Uma Thurman, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Bell, Stellan Skarsgard, and Christian Slater.
The scene, which I find extraordinary, takes us on a intriguing, yet awkward tour of Jerome’s office only to conclude with the couple stuck in an elevator. The end of the clip kicks us out right before, what I’m sure will be, one of the main character’s many endeavours. The filmmaker’s last two projects, Melancholia and Antichrist, along with the title of this one, are able to paint us a pretty clear picture of how provocative yet incredibly artsy this film will turn out.
To accommodate his not so extreme audience, Lars von Trier will release this film in both a softcore and a hardcore version. Nymphomaniac hits theatres Christmas day in Denmark and a U.S. distribution date is still pending.
