Though it remains unconfirmed, we’ve already heard that the sequel will begin with Scott Lang on house arrest. Still reeling from the events of Civil War – remember, just like Spider-Man: Homecoming before it, Ant-Man 2 will seemingly take place in the fallout of Marvel’s 2016 crossover – Paul Rudd’s hero is said to be enjoying more time with his daughter Cassie, though is quickly pulled back into the fray once he catches wind of Hope and Hank’s mission.

Sounds like another thrilling adventure for the titular hero, and if some new intel from director Peyton Reed is to be believed, fans can expect the Wasp to be a real highlight in the sequel. Speaking in a recent interview with Empire, Reed noted that the hero will be a very different fighter than Ant-Man.

This film is really her coming out party as a hero. Her power set is fantastic. She and Scott both shrink, but there the flying, and the fighting style of The Wasp is different from Ant-Man’s.

Exciting, right? In terms of what we can expect from the plot, well, like we said above, Hope and Hank will be on a mission, and it’s one that involves venturing into the Quantum Realm in order to retrieve the wayward Janet. Hunted by “all types of folks,” the duo are able to keep a low profile thanks to Pym Particles, which shrinks their base of operations down to an infinitesimal level.

Furthermore, we also know that Ant-Man and the Wasp will unfold across a “very short” space of time. Think of how The Defenders all took place within a single week and you’ll begin to get an idea of the alleged time frame. Unfortunately, that’s all we’ve got to go on for now, but given that it’s sandwiched between Infinity War and Avengers 4 on the MCU timeline, Marvel fans are beginning to wonder how Reed’s sequel fits into the bigger picture.

Expect those answers, and much more, to be revealed as we approach that July 6th, 2018 release date.
