Paul Rudd is in a lot of things. Like, sometimes it seems he’s everywhere. And yet I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say “You know who I’m sick of seeing so much? Paul Rudd.” Although, I’m sure I will now.
Like the recurring joke on Conan, it’s a real test of someone’s likeability to see them really begin to achieve success, to the point where their face is seemingly everywhere (who wouldn’t want to see Paul Rudd’s face everywhere!) and their name in the credits of every third movie you watch. This seemed to happen with Rudd in 2008-2010, with prominent roles in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You Man and Dinner for Schmucks testing the limits of how much audiences would tolerate Paul Rudd in increasingly leading roles. They seemed to respond with “give us more.”
I see this potentially happening with another impossibly likeable and gifted actor who can excel comedically as well as dramatically: Chris Pratt. After supporting roles in Moneyball, Zero Dark Thirty and Her, Pratt is now getting his chance at helming some of his own movies, beginning with voice work on The Lego Movie but proceeding with the highly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy and, as per current rumors, the next installment of Jurassic Park.
