The Ridiculous 6 Trailer Is Predictably Loathsome

Fortunately, moviegoers will be able to avoid the blights on modern cinema that are Adam Sandler comedies for the next year or so, but unfortunately that's not because Sandler has decided to take a much asked-for break from acting - it's because of his four-picture deal with Netflix, under which the comedian will be making four feature films specifically for the streaming giant.

The first trailer for The Ridiculous 6, Netflix’s first Sandler “comedy,” arrived yesterday, and though it’s been embedded at the top of this article, that’s far from a recommendation on my behalf that you watch it.

You see, though this is apparently meant to be a funny movie, there are absolutely zero laughs to be found in the preview. Instead, what we’ve got is an assortment of offensive stereotypes of Native Americans, some dumb exposition about why Sandler’s character, White Knife (ugh), ends up journeying across the Old West, people falling out of buildings, and a grotesquely long list of the actors cash-strapped enough to take on supporting roles. So, if you choose to skip it, you’re not missing much.

Click‘s Frank Coraci is reuniting with Sandler to direct The Ridiculous 6, which also stars Terry Crews, Jorge Garcia, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, Luke Wilson and Harvey Keitel. Yes, Harvey freaking Keitel somehow ended up in this – whatever incredible debt he owed Sandler is surely paid now.

The only upside of The Ridiculous 6 (and three other Sandler comedies) coming to Netflix is that it will be that much easier to avoid hearing about them. And, hey, Sandler’s fanbase seems to love supreme laziness in story, writing, acting and direction, if the success of some of his last trainwrecks is any indication – maybe the laziness of being able to simply log onto Netflix instead of slog out to the cinema will appeal to them so greatly that Sandler will find himself a permanent home.

The Ridiculous 6 streams on December 11.
