Ronin’s Been Spotted In The Avengers: Endgame Super Bowl Trailer

It’s now been over four weeks since a TV spot for Avengers: Endgame dropped during the Super Bowl, and given how quickly and thoroughly the fans have been scrutinizing every bit of footage released from the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, you wouldn’t think that there’d be anything left to unpack from the 30-second preview. Nonetheless, a recent Reddit post has managed to shed new light on an issue that many of us assumed had long been put to bed.

As you may recall, the final shot of the TV spot sees the new lineup of Avengers walking against a symbolic sunrise that makes the team deliberately hard to make out. Shortly after the footage was released, fans quickly identified the various members as Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Rocket, Ant-Man, War Machine and Bruce Banner, but as a brightened version of the image shared by Redditor ForceGenius reveals, the internet missed the mark with that last guess.

Specifically, the hero standing at the end of the line is not Mark Ruffalo’s internally conflicted Avenger, but Clint Barton, who’s these days going under the Ronin guise. Though most of the footage we’ve seen from the previews has shown the hero formerly known as Hawkeye going rogue, it seems, to the surprise of no one, that the character reunites with his old team sooner or later.

Of course, if Bruce Banner isn’t featured in the shot, then the question is raised of why not. Could it be that the conspicuous gap in the line is where the TV spot has edited out the character in his Professor Hulk persona? We’ll find out when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
