Marvel Reportedly Eyeing Travis Knight To Direct Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

The dismissal of James Gunn from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has created a messy situation for the MCU, but if a new report from The Disney Insider is anything to go by, then Marvel Studios could be seeing a potential replacement in Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings helmsman Travis Knight.

This latest development seems to go against previous reports of a heavily female shortlist for the job, which was rumored to include the likes of Top of the Lake‘s Jane Campion and Mudbound director Dee Rees. Nonetheless, Knight is said to have been considered for The Eternals before Chloe Zhao filled that position, and now the word is that he’s in the running for this heavily delayed sci-fi sequel.

So, is this actually something that fans would want to see? Well, since most of the internet has accepted by now that Disney aren’t about to change their mind on Gunn, the director of Kubo and lead animator of ParaNorman certainly sounds like a compelling substitute. And though we’ve yet to get a good idea of how the filmmaker fares in a live-action context, the first trailers for Bumblebee have managed to earn the curiosity of viewers who previously wouldn’t have touched the modern Transformers movies with a ten-foot pole.

So, while this report should be taken with a grain of salt, it’s hard to imagine fans would take much issue with the choice. But whoever ends up taking on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there’s a chance that we won’t be seeing any results until the year 2022, by which point, Gunn’s own Suicide Squad 2 may have already come our way.
