The sci-fi classic Logan’s Run has been languishing in development for a while now, suffering a stream of directors joining then leaving the project. Unfortunately, another blow arrives today as Ryan Gosling has also dropped out of the Warner Bros. flick.

Gosling and Drive director, Nicolas Winding Refn, were both attached to the reboot at the beginning of last year. As of now, no reports have mentioned the director’s departure so as it stands Refn is still at the helm.

The original 1976 version cast Michael York as Logan 5, the role Gosling would have played, who ends up on the run from authorities as he nears his 21st birthday. Why is Logan on the run? It’s because once he reaches 21 he’ll be euthanised as part of efforts to slow down resource consumption by humans. Not surprising really he opted to jog his way out of that fate.

As yet no news has surfaced with regard to Ryan Gosling‘s replacement but if the turnover on directors is anything to go by – we may see a lot of casting announcements.  Previously attached to helm were Bryan Singer (X-Men), James McTeigue (V For Vendetta), Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy) and Carl Erik Rinsch (47 Ronin).

Are you going to miss seeing Ryan Gosling running a lot, possibly wearing prosthetics? Come on, he’s not anywhere near 21. Have your say in the comments below.
