Is Scoot McNairy The Flash In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice?

Any self-respecting comic-book buff could tell you that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice isn't just a sequel to Man of Steel. Though the film certainly will continue the story of Kal-El/Superman (Henry Cavill), its bigger purpose, at least so far as Warner Bros. and DC Comics are concerned, is to do some pretty massive table-setting for the studios' planned Justice League blockbuster.

Any self-respecting comic-book buff could tell you that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice isn’t just a sequel to Man of Steel. Though the film certainly will continue the story of Kal-El/Superman (Henry Cavill), its bigger purpose, at least as far as Warner Bros. and DC Comics are concerned, is to do some pretty massive table-setting for the studios’ planned Justice League blockbuster.

We already know that, in addition to Superman and Batman (Ben Affleck), Dawn of Justice will feature Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and Aquaman (Jason Momoa, whose casting has not been officially confirmed but seems very solid). All of the above are characters who will likely factor into the Justice League movie – and now we’re hearing that Dawn of Justice will feature one more key member of that super-group. A new rumor has popped up online indicating that Scoot McNairy, who was cast in an “unspecified role,” is in fact playing the Scarlet Speedster himself.

What ignited Flash rumors? Well, Cosmic Book News recently drew attention to the fact that, in this behind-the-scenes photo, McNairy is wearing CGI socks, which will allow for special effects to be added in during post-production:

We do know that the Flash appears in Dawn of Justice, but whether McNairy is playing him is another story. I’m not completely on board with the theory that these green socks mean he’s definitely portraying the fast-moving superhero. What seems more likely to me is that McNairy will be taking on the role of someone who lost both legs during Superman and Zod’s destructive battle around Metropolis, and who is not a big fan of the hero as a result.

However, the possibility remains that McNairy’s character could be related to Justice League. After all, the script by Chris Terrio is expected to heavily feature connections to future DC Cinematic Universe titles. Another fan theory around McNairy is that he’s playing Nightwing, sidekick to Batman, but there’s really no evidence to support that.

What do you think? Could McNairy be playing the Flash? Let us know your thoughts below!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25th, 2016.
