Screenwriter Rhett Reese Weighs In To Quash Recent Deadpool 2/X-Force Rumors

Deadpool 2 scribe Rhett Reese has taken to Twitter to effectively debunk those rumors claiming three X-Force characters were due to be cast in the sequel.

Amid chatter of an alleged delay in production, earlier this week a report suggested Deadpool 2 was about to cast three X-Force characters – namely Sunspot, Feral, and Shatterstar – in anticipation of its 2018 release date.

It’s one of many unfounded tidbits doing the rounds online – even now, 13 months out from the sequel’s launch, the rumor mill continues to operate at full tilt – but thanks to Deadpool 2 co-writer Rhett Reese, we now know this particular piece of speculation to be false. In a series of Tweets (via CBM), Reese quickly shut down those claims that 20th Century Fox was in the early stages of casting Sunspot, Feral, and Shatterstar, before asking fans to stay vigilant while online.

When it comes to Deadpool 2, false reports continue to outnumber legitimate news by a “large, large margin,” so with that in mind, it’s best approaching any and all rumors with a heightened sense of caution.

Per Twitter:

Reese and Ryan Reynolds’ respective Twitter feeds tend to be a dependable source of information when it comes to the Merc With a Mouth’s sophomore outing, and with production due to commence sometime next month, we can surely expect some form of status report – a last-minute casting coup, perhaps? – between now and then.

Back in the flame-red suit is Ryan Reynolds, who spearheads a cast comprised of Josh Brolin (Cable) and Zazie Beetz (Domino), along with the returning Blind Al and Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa, the latter of whom is expected to undergo a big evolution in Deadpool 2.

One way or another, the David Leitch-directed sequel is officially on course for June 1st, 2018, and is one of three X-Men movies pegged for next year – the other two being New Mutants and the long-rumored Dark Phoenix.
