Avengers 4 Star Says He Likes The Film Better Than Infinity War

Infinity War marked such a high point for the MCU in terms of scope, scale and threat that it’s hard to imagine how next year’s still (!) untitled Avengers 4 will measure up to it, let alone surpass it. But surpass it it will. At least, that’s according to star Sean Gunn.

The man who brings Rocket Raccoon to life via motion capture in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and IW had some big promises to make about the upcoming sequel while speaking to Tulsa World. He couldn’t reveal much, of course, but did offer up this:

“I can tell you this. I can tell you that the movie is going to be really excellent. We shot them originally pretty much back-to-back with a short break … and I like (‘Avengers 4’) even more than ‘Infinity War,’ at least from the script and from shooting it, and I was really happy with ‘Infinity War.’ So I’m very hopeful that it’s going to be a great movie.”

Gunn should know a lot about Avengers 4, as Rocket was one of only two Guardians to survive the climactic events of Infinity War, with everyone from Star-Lord to Groot biting the dust thanks to Thanos’ finger snap. From what we gather, then, Rocket and Nebula will join forces with the few Avengers remaining to find a way to take down the Mad Titan and restore half the universe to life.

The future of Rocket in the franchise beyond A4 is a little uncertain at present, though, as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently in limbo after the firing of director – and Sean’s brother – James Gunn. That said, word has it that Marvel still plans to eventually use the script Gunn previously handed in and make the movie. That’s not quite the end goal Sean and the rest of the cast were hoping for when they penned an open letter calling for Gunn’s reinstatement, but it’s something, at least.

Back to Avengers 4, though, and Sean Gunn is currently donning the mocap suit for the reshoots for the film taking place in Atlanta. These have given us some fresh looks at how the cast will appear when we see them next – including Chris Evans’ classic Cap suit and Scarlett Johansson going back to being a redhead. Beyond that, not much else has been made available, but it’s likely that the first trailer will arrive in November, so stay tuned.
