Simon Kinberg Comments On Possibility Of Deadpool/Wolverine Crossover

If you dig superheroes in comics and/or animation, then you may have come to take the idea of team-ups in those forms of media for granted over the years. On the flip side, live action cinema really endured baby steps in that regard, as it took the likes of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman seemingly forever to meet up on the silver screen.

When it comes to Marvel, they’ve had more success in this arena, but they’re still handcuffed in certain respects due to their characters being split between Disney and Fox. That said, it’s quite lamentable that Wolverine will never get to be an Avenger – or, at least, Hugh Jackman’s iteration won’t.

Funny enough, there’s one dream crossover that’s been eluding us all, and it’s involving the aforementioned Wolverine and Deadpool. While Ryan Reynolds appears to be game for such a thing, Jackman seems content with having concluded this chapter in his life.

Still, there seem to be those in press and fandom alike who are keeping their fingers crossed, with Variety recently approaching producer Simon Kinberg regarding the matter. Though he doesn’t sound too optimistic about it happening, he at least admits that there’s a chance.

“I know that’s something Ryan [Reynolds] has been harassing Hugh Jackman about for a long time. But I produced Logan and I think we all felt that was a really fitting end for that character. So, is there a chance? There’s always a chance, I suppose, but we felt that was the best goodbye for Hugh as Wolverine.”

As is the case with many situations in life, I’m sure that Kinberg knows to never say never, but it’s hard to disagree with him in saying that Logan was indeed a fitting end for the the character. And though the X-Men film franchise has been known to hop around in time, even showing a younger version of Jackman’s Wolverine may feel weird at this point.

Deadpool 2 opens in theaters this Friday, May 18 – and you just might want to stick around after the credits.
