Spider-Man: Far From Home Will Explain Why Peter And Fury Didn’t Meet In Avengers: Endgame

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home released back in January and showed us the initial encounter between Peter Parker and Nick Fury, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. director commenting that it was nice to finally meet. After seeing Avengers: Endgame, though, this scene gets a little confusing as the pair were both present at Tony Stark's funeral.

In an interview with Total Film Magazine, executive producer Eric Carroll was asked whether this was a fake scene deliberately planted in the trailer to throw people off of how Endgame would conclude. Carroll confirmed that this was not the case but, intriguingly, did tease that there’s more to the story that’s revealed over the course of the sequel.

“No, it’s not a fake-out. The actually talk about why they didn’t talk in that…it’s not a fake-out. But there is more to [this subject] than meets the eye.”

Comic Book Movie suggests that Carroll’s alluding to the fact that Peter’s family history with S.H.I.E.L.D. goes back further than his first meeting with Fury. After all, in the comics, Richard and Mary Parker were recruited by Nick Fury into the CIA. It doesn’t seem too much of a leap to suggest then that Far From Home will reveal that the Parkers were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents instead. Then again, seeing as The Amazing Spider-Man movies already tackled Peter’s parents, it’s difficult to say whether Marvel would want to cover that ground again.

In any case, the same interview also saw Carroll explain that Fury and Peter may find themselves unlikely kindred spirits in FFH. Like Peter, Fury was also dusted in the Snap and has now been resurrected five years later. As for why he’s so keen to recruit him, even following him around Europe, the producer says that Fury’s just trying to get back in control after the chaotic turn the world’s taken.

Spider-Man: Far From Home swings into cinemas on July 2nd.
