Stan Lee’s 15 Greatest Marvel Movie Cameos

15) The Avengers

In case you missed it, Lee turns up towards the end of team-up extravaganza The Avengers. Appearing as an elderly New York resident, he’s interviewed by a news reporter for his opinion on the Avengers. “Superheroes in New York?” Stan answers. “Give me a break!”

It’s not exactly the subtlest of Lee’s cameos, but it’s definitely a fun one. It also works on two levels. On the one hand, it’s a reference to how he created the idea of superheroes mostly residing in New York in popular culture. On the other hand, whoever it is Stan’s playing in the Marvel movies has met every superhero thus far, so it’s pretty funny to think that he still doesn’t believe in them.

14) Guardians Of The Galaxy

We’re not sure if he requests them or not, but a fair few of Lee’s cameos revolve around him being accompanied by attractive women. For instance, he’s the judge of a beauty pageant in Iron Man 3 and he appeared with a lady on each arm in an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  His cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy pokes fun at this trend, too, as when surveying the crowd on Xandar, Rocket spots Lee flirting with a young woman and calls him a “class-a prevert.”

It’s a shame the original plan for the cameo didn’t go ahead – he was supposed to have been one of the items in the Collector’s menagerie – but this is still a memorable role for Stan all the same and should bring a smile to the face of any Marvel fun.
