The Millennium Falcon May Be Getting A New Owner In Star Wars: Episode IX

The fact that Lando Calrissian’s return to the main Star Wars series has been saved for the final installment of the Sequel Trilogy means that J.J. Abrams won’t have a whole lot of time to give Billy Dee Williams’ character a meaningful arc to justify his comeback. Nonetheless, a rumor on Reddit has been making the rounds lately that, while unverified, at least offers a suggestion of how Lando’s journey can be brought full circle in a satisfying manner in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX.

The rumor in question concerns the Millennium Falcon, which has been passed down in recent installments from the late Han Solo to the young Rey. The recent report, however, alleges that Abrams’ next film will see Rey and Rose off on their own separate mission, leaving the Falcon in the hands of Chewbacca, Poe and Finn. To this claim’s credit, this particular trio has been seen together in leaked set photos wandering through a grassy region that looks like it may also receive a visit from Han’s old ship.

Anyway, the report goes on to allege that once Lando re-enters the picture, Chewie manages to convince him to help the Resistance in exchange for the Falcon, and while we’ve yet to see any solid evidence to back up this claim, it at least sounds like a pretty plausible idea. After all, as far as the films go, Lando’s the first known owner of the Falcon, and bringing the ship back into his possession could be a fitting, not to mention fan-pleasing, way to end the journeys of both Lando and the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

In any case, we’ll find out if Abrams has such a reunion in mind when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
