Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Theory Says Rey’s A Clone Of Luke

Another day, another fan theory about Rey’s parentage.

Speculation about the origins of Daisy Ridley’s heroine has been rife ever since she was introduced in The Force Awakens and has only got more creative since The Last Jedi apparently revealed her parents were nobodies from Jakku. Now, an imaginative new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker theory might’ve found a way to still connect Rey to an established character.

Reddit user Vadrr21 has come up with the idea that Rey is actually a clone of Luke Skywalker. The fan suggests that she was grown from Luke’s severed hand, which was cut off in The Empire Strikes Back. They then say that Palpatine created Rey in one of his labs on Jakku before two scavengers – her “parents” – discovered Rey and sold her and their other finds off to Unkar Plutt.

Obviously, this seems a bit far-fetched at first, but it’s important to remember that clones have been a major part of the SW universe since Attack of the Clones, so it isn’t as implausible as it sounds. The Redditor also has some extra evidence for why this makes sense – including a nice detail about Rey’s connection to Anakin’s lightsaber.

“This would explain why Rey thought her parents were nobody, why she also so strong with the force and also why Anakins Lightsaber called for her. Would be poetic in the sense that the lightsaber is yearning the “hand” that once yielded it.”

It’s also worth mentioning that J.J. Abrams originally planned for the first shot of The Force Awakens to be Luke’s hand floating in space. If this is the origin for Rey that’s been thought up of all along, that would’ve been a sneaky way of setting up the big twist to come.

Honestly, with the Emperor confirmed to return in Episode IX, all bets are off now, as we really have no idea how he’ll factor into the plot – he could just get a glorified cameo or he could be revealed to be the organ-grinder of the whole trilogy. As Yoda might say: reveal the truth, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will on December 20th.
