Supergirl Movie In The Works At Warner Bros. And DC

The future of the DC Extended Universe is in flux right now. After the failure of Justice League, Warner Bros. slowed down a little and only have three movies coming out in the next two years - Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984. Beyond that, the studio has various projects rolling around but an official schedule has yet to be released. That being said, a new report might just reveal which pic is next in line to begin development, as according to Deadline, the studio's now working on putting together a Supergirl movie.

According to Deadline, the studio’s begun working on putting together a Supergirl movie. That’s right, after a couple of very successful seasons on television in recent years, the character’s now coming to the big screen. Details on the project remain scarce at this early stage, but it’s believed that Oren Uziel is penning the script.

A director, producer and cast have yet to be assembled, but it’s said that this will be a new iteration of the hero, meaning we shouldn’t expect to see Melissa Benoist – who plays Supergirl on TV – reprise her role. And while that’s definitely unfortunate given how great she is in the part, it does make sense and follows suit with various other DC characters being recast for the big screen, like the Flash.

As for the Man of Steel, it’s unknown whether or not he’ll be involved in the film, but you have to imagine he’d at least swing by for a cameo. Or show up in a potential sequel. Beyond that, there are a ton of other great heroes and villains that WB and DC could throw into the movie, too, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves right now.

At the moment, it’s still very early days for the Supergirl film and though Deadline believes a female director will end up being hired, there aren’t any names being tossed around for who the studio may have their eye on right now. If you’ve got any choices of your own for who should sit behind the camera though, or for who would be a good candidate play the titular hero, be sure to let us know in the comments section down below.
