Right on the heels of the release of the first synopsis for The Wolverinewe now have news from the film’s Facebook page that Svetlana Khodchenkova has officially be cast as Viper in the James Mangold directed film.

The Russian actress, best known for her role in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, was rumored to be in consideration for Viper last month.

This casting does seem appropriate, as Viper is of Eastern European descent, though some fans may still be disappointed that Jessica Biel didn’t land the role. What is slightly worrisome is that Khodchenkova hasn’t really proven herself as an action star just yet and Viper is supposed to be capable of fighting toe to toe with Wolverine. However, considering Mangold cast her for the role, I’m sure she is more than capable of holding her own in an action flick.

For those who don’t know, Viper is a “complex character” who is both a friend and foe to Wolverine. How she’ll factor into the film though isn’t quite clear just yet.

Considering filming has begun, it was inevitable that an official announcement of the casting of Viper would arrive sooner rather than later. Personally, I think Khodchenkova will be a good fit. I enjoyed her in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and can’t wait to see what she does in this role.
