The most encouraging reaction to ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ by far is that the CGI doesn’t suck

Could Phase Four's biggest criticism have finally been addressed?

Arguably the single biggest criticism of the altogether-polarizing Phase Four was that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s CGI had taken a worrying dip in quality across the board, which inevitably created some concerns for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

After all, the vast majority of Peyton Reed’s threequel is set in the Quantum Realm, so fans were growing concerned that it was going to be the latest in an increasingly long line of pixelated disasters, especially when the first look at giant floating head M.O.D.O.K was unveiled to much mockery and memes.

However, following Quantumania‘s world premiere last night, the first reactions have been filtering online for the world to see, and perhaps the single most encouraging of all is that the visual effects are being widely praised in a turn-up for the books that’s going to be most welcome if they can sustain their consistency for the entire running time.

Based on the concept and logline alone, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania was always going to be an avalanche of CGI, which comes with the territory when the MCU is kicking off Phase Five and the Multiverse Saga at large with the tiny superhero’s biggest and most ambitious effort yet in terms of scope, scale, and spectacle.

We’ll be curious to see how general audiences react, though, when you consider that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has only recently been dragged across hot coals for an underwhelming barrage of poorly-rendered digital creations that can often cripple the levels of immersion and investment in what’s happening onscreen.
