‘The Penguin’ crew member reveals shooting on ‘The Batman’ spinoff is officially underway

'The Penguin' is finally gaining wings.

The long-awaited The Batman spinoff has started production at long last. Following the story of everyone’s favorite DC villain, The Penguin, a series titled after its main character, was announced in August 2022, and shooting has finally begun.

Ending all speculation, the news broke via a crew member’s post, where production designer Kalina Ivanov shared a picture of a black and white compass visible on the floor. Although cryptic to the eye, the caption further explains that the “first day of shooting THE PENGUIN is in the can,” furthermore adding that “only the compass can tell us in what Gotham direction we’re going.”

Housed by HBO Max, The Penguin will star Colin Farrell as Oswald ‘The Penguin’ Cobblepot and Cristin Milotti as Sofia Falcone – the main duo in the new Bat-verse series in Gotham City. In February, four other additions to the cast were announced: Rhenzy Feliz (Marvel’s Runaways), Michael Kelly (House of Cards, Jack Ryan), Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog), and Dierdre O’Connell (The Requin).

Other than some of its cast members, no other information has been released regarding the spinoff of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Not joining the group of secrecy is Colin Ferrel, who has shared a few details about The Penguin during interviews. According to the actor, The Penguin will be an eight-part series about Cobblepot’s rise to power, as he fills the “power vacuum created when Falcone was killed.

There is still no release date for The Penguin.
